Vanop Mont Pélérin - waar F.A.
Your Excellency,

We, co-chairmen and joint founders of the Mises Circle in the European Parliament, are sending you this communication from the historic Swiss town of Mont Pelerin to thank you for your heroic stance in defending the same values of individual liberty, limited government, free enterprise, and freedom from State coercion, that inspired F.A. Hayek and his colleagues in 1947. These men were opposing a profound and near universally accepted ideology which places the State at the centre of public life, and the individual no more than a function of the collective. In the same way today, destiny has settled her hand on your shoulder, and called you to stand against the same prejudice and fear. We therefore urge you to remain resolute and keep the lantern of liberty held high aloft, and never sign the Treaty of Lisbon.

Yours sincerely,

Vincent De Roeck

Dear Ladislav Jakl,

As the President's political advisor concerning the Treaty of Lisbon, please receive this email.

Dear President Vaclav Klaus,

As a concerned citizen of Europe, I wish to express my gratitude and thanks for your courageous stand against the Treaty of Lisbon. Due in part to your country's past history, you have gained real wisdom and insight that seems to be badly lacking elsewhere regarding the true nature of democracy, prosperity and freedom. I am convinced that you have the best interests of Europe at heart and that you are a perfect man for such a time as this.

I applaud your efforts, and as one voice among many, offer my full support to your cause. We look to you to teach us all the truth of the phrase "O nás bez nás" (about us, without us). We do not want the European Union to become another pseudo-democratic empire that acts in our name, while we, the people, remain nameless before them.

I, as many others, am aware of the tremendous pressure being put upon you to sign and be silenced. But as people of freedom, we know that all forms of totalitarianism, no matter how subtle, need to be challenged and unmasked.

In this hope, I wish you every success.

Dear Friends of Liberty,

As you are aware, Vaclav Klaus is the last obstacle standing in the way of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. Whether he signs or not will make a huge difference not only to the future of Europe, but to individual freedom in the world as a whole. While Klaus is surely as faithful to his principles, and as aware of the consequences of him signing as any of us, the pressure on him to sign must be enormous. As is common in these sorts of situations, those with a vested interest in him signing are piling on the pressure wholesale, but those of us who are on his side are probably mostly doing nothing. As a result, it looks likely that Klaus will cave in.

Nobody knows what the future will hold if Klaus signs. (...) What follows then is unknown: it could be that we have a new millennium of neo-Holy Roman Empire, we could end up in the American scenario (attempted secession by some member states, civil war and its suppression by the others), or we could have the Yugoslavian scenario. What I think we can be sure of is it will not be a serene union of member states, happily coexisting with each other. It has been tried before - in Yugoslavia and in the Soviet Union - and it failed miserably. If Lisbon comes into effect, it will be the first time in history for Britain to be a vassal state of "the Holy Roman Empire": not even in the pre-Christian ancient Roman times was Britain a Roman province.

The Taxpayers Alliance has a petition which you may wish to sign but I would also like to encourage you to consider writing a short personal postcard/note of support to President Klaus. A few (or even better, many) individual postcards can make the difference between him caving in and him continuing to stand our ground in this critical moment of our time.

His contact details are:
The Office of the President of the Czech Republic
Prague Castle, 119 08 Prague 1, Czech Republic

If you think this is a good idea, please ask your like-minded friends to do the same. Thank you and best wishes,
